About NextTask

NextTask is a task switching app that randomly selects your next task from a predefined list and lets you work through it with a configurable timebox timer.

How it works

Tasks

Create a list of tasks — things you want to get to. These are simple named items that you can reuse across multiple task lists.

Task Lists

Group your tasks into task lists. A task list is a collection of tasks that belong together — for example "Morning Routine", "Weekend", or "Side Project". A task can appear in multiple task lists.

Execution

When you're ready, pick a task list and hit Execute. NextTask will:

  1. Randomly select a task from the list
  2. Start a countdown timer (default: 20 minutes)
  3. When time is up, notify you (optional sound or browser notification)
  4. You can always switch to the next random task, pause, or stop

Options

  • Timebox: Set how many minutes you want to spend on each task (1–480 minutes)
  • Never repeat last task: Avoid getting the same task twice in a row
  • Notification: Choose between no notification, a sound alert, or a browser notification when the timer expires

The timer continues into negative time if you go past the timebox — you're never interrupted, only notified.

Task Log

Every completed session is recorded in your Task Log, showing when you started, which task you worked on, and how long. Sessions shorter than 1 minute are automatically discarded.

Getting started

  1. Log in with your Google account
  2. Create tasks — add the things you want to get to
  3. Create a task list — select tasks and group them
  4. Execute — hit play and let NextTask pick your next task

Deleting your account

You can permanently delete your account at any time from your profile page. This will remove all your tasks, task lists, and execution history.
